Story tellers

Monday dinner as well Tuesday lunch I was fortunate to be at the same table as Ed Lassettre. Ed is veteran of many years of IBM, and now at Microsoft. He has a tremendous experience as well as a deep understanding of all the problems large customers have experienced over time. What made this special is that Ed is a great story teller. He would dominate the conversation with absolutely great stories, some historical (the real reasons why IBM choose EBCDIC over ASCII), others principled (what students should learn from industry veterans). He tells theses stories without putting himself in the center of attention, it is about the story, not the story teller. It was really enjoyable.
