Lights Out

Failure in the Niagara-Mohawk power grid brought down power in New York City, Boston, Detroit, Cleveland, Toronto and others just after 4 PM EST. I know enough about the Grid in the North East to realize that, even though we are on the NYSEG grid, it is just matter of time before we will locally get hit.

Such much for the critical infrastructure protection ....

I think it may have been that campus had enough reserves to keep going - at my apartment in Lansing, we were out almost exactly the same time as Manhattan, as discovered by my boss calling about 2 minutes after our power went out telling me that their power went out.

Lansing (and ergo, the mall) came back at 2:30 AM.

Only place in town that appeared to be up all day was Barnes & Noble and the related shopping complex, since there's a generator there.
