Likin P.

Later in the evening as you lie awake in bed,
With the echo from the amplifiers ringing in your head

It is no longer yesterday evening, as it was in Bob Seeger's Turn The Page, but the amplifiers are still ringing in my head. I went to see Linkin Park last night in Rochester where they a played make-up gig from their Project Revolution Tour. I find LP to be one of the better modern rock bands; both their music and lyrics have a complexity and a drive that I find very appealing.

To be honest I didn't have very high hopes for Linkin Park as a live band, as I could imagine that the complexity of their studio material would not translate well to live performances. The reviews of the first shows from the Summer Sanitarium Tour were also not very kind to LP, especially not when they were compared to Metallica, which is the main act in that tour and who play the kind of  rock is perfect for live acts. But I was not disappointed, they played very well, were musically very smooth, and created a very high energy show consisting of most of the songs from the Hybrid Theory album with some songs mixed in from Meteora.

I took the small AV-10 with me and created a few quicktime snapshots of Runaway (.7 Mb) and Crawling (1.5 Mb). I won't win any awards for cameraman-ship, but I had the excuse that it is difficult to keep the camera steady in the middle of a jumping crowd.

There were three opening acts, of which 'Cold' And 'Mudvayne' were absolutely horrible (in my view), playing a very negative style music. The hip-hop act Jurassic-5 was great, very fast upbeat hip-hop that went over very well in a live setting.

Jurassic 5 actually played at Bailey Hall Spring of 2001; they put on a great show and were a pleasure to work with. One of the few hip-hop acts left that actually care about the music.

After Jurrassic 5 played, I though that even if LP could turn out to be not that good, I had seen a great act and it would have been worth the trip.
