Today's visitor - Geoff Voelker

Geoff Voelker is visiting from UCSD today. Our group is collaborating with Geoff and Keith Marzullo under the umbrella of MURI (DOD's Multi-University Research Initiative) on the scalability of networked systems.

Geoff is giving an interesting talk this afternoon on Internet Worm Containment. He describes the design space of worm containment systems using three key parameters -- reaction time, containment strategy and deployment scenario. Using a combination of analytic modeling and simulation, he shows how each of these design factors impacts the dynamics of a worm epidemic and, conversely, the minimum engineering requirements necessary to contain the spread of a given worm. An Infocom paper on the subject can be found here.
