A Harvard Scholar & Name Calling

There was something that bothered me when I followed the rowdy comments at Sam Ruby's log in response to Mark Pilgrim's defense of CSS. First it was entertaining but then I realized that we are not talking about Dave Winer the SV entrepreneur, but Dave Winer the Harvard Scholar. Now I don't know how this works at other Ivy League institutions, but if I would be engaging in a dispute the way Dave did today, I am sure the department's Chair and the Dean will be having my head on a silver platter before lunch on Monday. I find it very hard to believe that Harvard Law would find this behavior acceptable of any of its scholars. So actually I am hoping that someone will claim that he/she spoofed Dave Winer on that blog, or else my opinion of Harvard Law just has been lowered a few points.

For me, much of the credibility of either side's argument gets lost in the mudslinging (sounds like politics). It does occur to me that the whole thing is just staged as a joke among friends. Not having finished reading to the end of the thread, perhaps I missed it all getting sorted out.
