My new desktop hardware

Today my new home machine arrived. It has been 3 years since the last one so I figured out it was time to upgrade. The old one was a dual-proc PIII 700 Dell Precision and has served me well. So the new machine is also a Dell Precision, model 450. This one has 2 2.8Ghz P4 Xeon's with 2GB of DDR266 SDRAM. Processing power is important, but given that I have a 10 MBits/sec link from home to the machine room at work, I have access to more than sufficient backend power.

What is really the crown on this system (literally) will arrive next week: a Samsung 240MT, a 24" LCD with 1920x1200 resolution. I saw it next to the 23" Apple Cinema display, and the Apple looked dull (240T: pitch .27, contrast 500:1, brightness 270). It is a truly spectacular monitor for under $3K. It better be good because it is going to replace my two SGI 1600SW LCD's that are now connected to the system. I have had the SGIs at work and at home for close to 5 years  now and they been unmatched in quality until the Samsung came along. The 240T also can double as a HDTV monitor.
